While choice and lots of settings sounds great in theory–it falls down in practice. Only power-users, which is a small-subset of the user-base know about these settings and even a smaller set of users that configure them. It’s an engineer approach to stuff in lots of settings, but great UX Design will have excellent defaults that are user focused.
