Hi,

Here's a method using iTunes.

1. Navigate to the song you wish to make a ring tone of.
2. Press cmd-i to Get Info on the song file.
3. Select the Options tab.
4. Adjust the start and end times so that it starts where you want it to and
ends no more than 30 seconds from then.
5. Press OK.
6. Press VO-m to get to the MenuBar, right to the File menu, down to to
Convert and select "Create AAC Version" from the sub-menu.

A shortened version of your song will be created, but only be exactly how long
you made it. So, you'll have two versions of the song in your Library, one
that is the full time and one that is 30 seconds or less. Fix the original so
that it starts and ends at its proper times then continue with these
instructions.

7. Press VO-shift-m on the new shortened version of the song and select the
"Show in Finder" item.
8. Change the extension on the file in the Finder to m4r from m4a. To
accomplish this, just press return on the file, interact with the title,
VO-shift-right through the title to the end of the extension, delete the "a"
and replace it with an "r".

Now if you go back into iTunes you should be able to do a Get Info on this file
and, under the Options tab change it to a Tone. If this last part doesn't work
for you, just copy the m4r file into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder and
it will properly place the Tone into its correct location and be ready for use.

HTH.
