There was a discussion thread about this where apparently manually trashing time machine backup files causes this error:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2138034&tstart=30

seems like several folks had success using Trashit

to resolve the issue.

Hi there.
I've got quite many objects in my trash that i want to get rid of, amongst
those old time machine objects and such. The reason why i want to erase all
this is to start doing backups with another application namely Carbon copy
cloner. Problem is, when i try emptying the trash, a dialog pops up informing
me that the task couldn't be completed because an unexpected error occurred and
then an error code -8003. What's going on here and what can i do about it?
