Hi,

To add to Erik's instructions, the file should have a .htm or .html extension
and if it is going to be a web-page and you can tell TextEdit to always open
those files as code instead of as the web-page itself. In TextEdit Prefs, in
the Open/Save tab, make sure that the Display HTML files as HTML code instead
of formatted text checkbox is checked. As well, with Erik suggesting that you
have both the TextEdit document open and Safari open simultaneously, you can
press cmd-r in Safari after making and saving your changes in the TextEdit
document to see instantly the changes on the web-page itself.

Later...

You press control option shift M (vo shift M) on the file in finder.

Choose open with.
Choose text edit.

While editing, keep both text edit and safari open.

If text edit doesn't appear where I said it would, do the following.

Press control option shift M (vo shift M) on the file in finder.

Choose open with.
Choose choose program.
A dialog opens.
Choose text edit.
Tab through the dialog and make sure the box that says "always use this program
to open this type of file", is unchecked. This may or may not be a thing. I
get my os' mixed up all the time.
Hit OK.
Text edit will open with your html source.
Next time you need to open html source, text edit will be an option as per the
first set of instructions.

Hope this helps,

Erik

Hi,

I sent a message earlier asking how to open the context menu. I got the menu,
but the option I wanted wasn’t there. I’m learning to use html. As you
programmers probably know, once you save it and open it in Safari, it is no
longer the code you see, but the results. I’m trying to revert back to the txt
it came from. I saw the option to browse the types of documents, but when I
accessed the context menu, I didn’t see a list to choose from. So, is there
another menu to open, or do I open it at the wrong place?

Thanks,
