Hi, I don't use QuickNav much, if at all, and still find similar frustrations as Christine, albeit, not to the same degree. I've found that VO jumps to the beginning sometimes when I stop to think between typing. the best thing I've found is to just not use VO navigation when composing eMails, that is, just arrow navigation. Option-right/left navigates word by word, up/down goes line by line and right/left goes character by character. Works for now.
