This was my initial response as well. However, it works quite nicely with
Bluetooth; the Braille is excellent; it is comfortable to use, and most
importantly for me, it has automatic tactile control which allows for reading
without having to manually go backwards and forwards (although one can, if one
wishes). I am an extremely fast Braille reader and I have tendinitis in my
dominant hand, so any extra repetitive motion is a no-no. I am also quite
confident that the manufacturer will get around to making Actilino as
compatible with Mac as with Windows. For my purposes, it is worth the
inconvenience.
Now, for the update regarding the original problem:
Apparently, none of the USB cables I have appear to be the correct one for
connecting the Actilino to the MacBook. I require a male-to-male USB 3.0, which
is no longer standard, and Apple doesn’t carry it, nor any adaptors for it.
I’ve ordered a couple. Meanwhile, the Genius Bar member, Mike, who was
assisting me stated that I should ascertain that people copy and paste between
the Actilino and a MacBook this way, as he said he was not certain it would
work even with the correct cable. He suggested it might be more feasible to
copy my files onto a drive from the MacBook, then connect that drive to the USB
port and read on the Actilino. So I am off to the Handy Tech list to clarify
what others are doing. Apparently, my computer and all ports are in tip-top
shape, and the MacBook was reacting to a different USB cable connection than it
liked, as it was happening merely with the insertion of the various cables,
even without the Actilino attached.
