Jonathan,
I really need to connect my display to the Mac and learn to use it as a display but some cells are failing which kills my motivation.

When its connected this way, the display will depend on the braille settings on the Mac, not the settings your display uses.

OK, I thought when I opened a BRF in this way, it got translated a second time into braille when viewing on my Braille Note APEX. I only tried this once, but if there is something else needed, please let me know. In other words, when there was a 5 in the brf file I was seeing number sign 5 instead of the contraction "en".

Thanks,

Jonathan

An easier method is to do a VO-shift-m (context nenu) on the
.brf file, select Open with, then select Other and select TextEdit

    it will open in TextEdit.

            -Hello Christine.

You ask a very good question the answer to which is the
            following:

A .brf/.brl file is merely a text file.  Consequently, you
can use any word processing application to view it.

On Windows, I generally use Notepad or Wordpad.

On the Mac, I recommend that you use Text Edit.

So, instead of clicking on the .brf file from within Finder,
first, open Text Edit and from within it, find the .BRF file
that you wish to read with your Braille display.

            Good luck.

            Mark

Subject: Confused about reading brf files on Braille display
connected to iPhone or MacBook Air

OK, so there is no problem accessing Bookshare’s html files
in contracted Braille when I have my preferences set for
that, but I thought (apparently mistakenly) that I would be
able to read brf files from Bookshare, BARD Mobile, NBP,
etc.,` with a Braille display. However, on my MacBook, I am
getting that there is “no application” which can open a BRF
            file. What am I missing?
            Thanks in advance.

            Christine
