Hi, It sounds like you've enabled Desktop and Documents folders within the iCloud service. When this is enabled, the Documents and Desktop folders reside in iCloud instead of your Home directory. You can find by either pressing cmd-shift-i to open the iCloud directory or by going up to the Go menu while in the Finder and choosing iCloud. If, for some reason, you don't wish this configuration, go into System Preferences, iCloud, then interact with the Services Table, interact with iCloud Drive and VO-right to the Options button. You can toggle this feature on and off. I prefer this configuration as it gives me access to my Desktop and Documents on all my devices, but that's my preference.

I am not sure how but I seem to have finished up with the below configuration and cannot work out how to correct it. I am set up as user Paul hopewell with a login password. For some reason user Paul hopewell is subordinate to user guest who does not have a login password. User Paul hopewell has folders download, music, movies, pictures and public but does not have folders documents and desktop. User guest has all folders including their own versions of downloads, music, pictures and so on which user Paul hopewell can see but is not authorised to read. User Paul hopewell cannot create folders Documents and desktop as these names are already in use. So as user Paul Hopewell I moved all the contents of folder documents on my old iMac to a new folder data under user Paul hopewell on my new iMac and I also moved all the contents of Music, pictures and so on from my old iMac into matching folders under user Paul Hopewell on my new iMac. This all works fine but I am concerned about not having folders documents and desktop or user Paul hopewell on my new iMac. Do you have any ideas on the easiest way to fix the above? Many thanks.
