You will have to reinstall the operating system in order to pass onto someone else your old mac. Log into the recovery partition by holding down command+r when restarting your mac. Wait for a few minutes to be sure and then activate voiceover with command+f5. You will be presented with a table of choices. Choose to reinstall the operating system. Once it’s done, shut down the computer and it will be ready to go to the new owner.
