One: you can select multiple non-contiguous items with the control-option-command-return keystroke. Once you have all the items selected, you can use standard commands like drag, copy, delete.
For your second question: I believe a, there is some kind of first letter navigation in the mail application, I can’t remember if it works for senders, subjects or both. There is also if you interact with a row of the list of messages and then move over to the subject column. Then use the up/down arrow keys without VO it should just read the subject of the message you have now selected. The search functionality is also quite useful in Mail.
