One other possibility especially if you have the messages associated with the 
mailing list in their own folder or smart folder is to interact with the mail 
table down to the column level and then use the standard arrow keys to move 
about once the VO cursor reads a subject. Sorry, the description above sounds 
fairly complicated, but at that point the only thing read while navigating 
would be the subject and perhaps the coma sped 10 messages in thread verbiage 
that VOiceOver likes to say in threaded conversations.
