If you want to register for any reason on a web site, you are going to have to provide information. As for supplying phone numbers, I am sure you know that when one sets up the text message app, one elects to use phone number and/or email address. Just the fact that one accesses the Internet opens you up to attack.

No, what is different about math as opposed to distorted letters and numbers? If its true that some bots can use OCR, these captchas are equally vulnerable.
