Hi Mary,

As you may recall, I own the fifth Generation Focus 40 Blue unit. In addition
to the information you’ve already received, I’ll add some comments. I like
typing on the Focus keyboard for note taking usually performed in Word 2016.
It’s a Perkins-style keyboard and feels solid to the touch. The dots on the
unit are crisp. Unlike with the prior unit, they provided a good carrying case
for this unit. A Scratch Pad was recently implemented on the Focus. You can
take some very basic notes, not meant fvor word processing and no advanced
formatting is supported. With the Mini-SD slot, you can store and open books
from Bard and other sources. As I mainly use Jaws, I like the support it has
for the Focus displays. Additionally, I am awaiting the elBraille that will
work with the Focus Fifth Gen. It’s supposed to have significant improvements
over the unit that is already available for the Fourth Gen, but specifics are
not available yet. I wanted to see the Q Braille, but never heard back from
the distributor In my area. HIMS didn’t follow up either. That’s all I have
for now.
Best,

Les

Subject: Braille edge or focus 40 latest generation with Mac and iPhone

Hi all, and I acknowledge that this has been Cross posted to a couple of lists.
I am interested in hearing from people who have recent experience with the
displays I mentioned in the subject line with a Mac but particularly with
iPhones, iPads etc. I’m also interested in the new device that’s coming out
called the Q braille, but it’s not out yet, so of course nobody can really
comment on it I guess. Of course I know that the focus is particularly well
served by the jaws for windows screen reader, but that is outside the scope of
any of these lists. I’m also interested in the note taking capability and how
easy it might be to get say, bookshare books on and off of the device for
independent use, but I suppose that too is outside the scope of these lists.
Please feel free to reply to me off list about that stuff. What is on point is
the stability of the Bluetooth connection, and the overall feel of the keyboard
at Cetera, and the out of the box key assignments.
Mary
