Hi, the difficulty with the USB installer in this situation is that Wayne cannot even boot up. He only has Recovery mode available. The USB installers require you to have the Mojave installer in the Applications folder and to either use the Terminal or a specific application to create the USB installer. Internet Recovery mode would do the same thing as it is running from an external OS. When in Recovery mode, select Disk Utility then Continue. When in Disk Utility, interact with the list of devices, navigate to the top of the list where Internal should be listed and your drive right after that. After selecting the drive, stop interacting with the list of devices, navigate left to the Toolbar, and select Erase from the options within the Toolbar. If Erase is not available, then you're either not on the Macintosh HD volume or you'll need to choose Partition instead of Erase. In either case, make sure that you name the drive and select MacOS Extended (Journaled) as the format type then proceed.
Once the drive has been erased and properly formatted, quit the Disk Utility then choose Re-Install MacOS in the MacOS Utilities window. Follow the prompts and it should install the MacOS cleanly.
