I should have added that the comma can be repeated in sequence to introduce a
longer pause. For instance:

1 comma instructs the dialer to pause 3 seconds
2 commas instructs the dialer to pause 6 seconds
3 commas instructs the dialer to pause 9 seconds
… and so on

At best, putting the appropriate pause length is a “trial and error”
proposition as each conversant system will have its’ own peculiarities. It may
even be that while one prompt requires a 6 second pause before accepting an
answer, another prompt on the system may only require a 2 second pause (in
which case you would need 1 comma).

Hi Angus (and all else on the list),

I’m presuming that you are asking how to create a telephone number with all
prompts pre-answered so as to place directly into the conversant system. I
will present the way I do this in order to get directly into my BMO-Harris
checking account (inaccurate numbers of course):

To set up a number in the BMO-Harris contact I create a “Code Included” number
as follows:

        (888) 340-2256,,1,1234567890,1234#,1

I’ll explain - remember that numbers following the telephone number are site
specific in that they represent responses to your bank’s conversant system:

(888) 340-2256
The above is the tool-free number into BMO’s conversant system

,
Instructs dialer to pause for 3 seconds, waiting for the initial prompt

1
Answers initial prompt - enter checking account prompt sequence

,
Again, instruct a 3-second pause

1234567890
Enters requested account number

,
Another 3-second pause

1234
Enters personal password

,
Yet another 3-second pause

At this point you would be in the conversant system for a checking account
whereupon you can answer prompts as presented.

NOTE: Your bank’s system may require pound immediately after information such
as account number and/or password; simply include that character at the end of
each number sequence. For example, in the case of the password above you would
have the numeric string “1234#” and all should work properly.
