I’m running into a situation where VoiceOver mispronounces the word defeat
whenever I encounter it in an e-mail subject line or e-mail message body. It
seems to be pronouncing it as “defeaturing” or something akin to that.

In fact, as I review this very message before sending it off to the e-mail
group, the “defeat” in the first sentence is suffering this fate. I notice,
however, that surrounding the word with double quotation marks eliminates this
problem.

Can anybody offer an explanation or solution?

NOTE: I should add that I’m using the “Susan” voice.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: I decided to open the VoiceOver Utility before sending this
message off and play with different voices to determine if this was a common
problem. It is NOT; the “Susan” voices (both standard and compact) manifest
this. The Ava voice does not!

Still, I wonder if anybody else has experienced with the Susan voices (or any
other voice for that matter)?
