I developed a system of making PDF files accessible to the blind and it was tested by AFB Tech, the technology division of the American Foundation for the blind and they called it a "Raising the Floor" technology. The process is currently being tested at the Jernigan Insitute for the National Federation of the Blind. I can do this in many languages covering about 5.4 billion people worldwide including in Haitian Creole whcih as you know is not French and only 4% of the country actually speak French and so the international community is left with this language barrier. I would like to know who I should contact at Apple to show them what I can do because it seems a shame not to be using this in the current crisis in Haiti. The screen readers to read this are free on the Internet.
I would like to know who else other than Adobe makes a PDF format that is reliable? I am looking at Foxit right now and it works with it but there seems to be a lot of formatting information included when the screen reader reads foxit. So what are the good PDF readers other than Adobe? My system works with JAWS, Window Eyes and Zoom Text and is backwards compatible to older screen readers. I designed it with JAWS 8. But it also works with free screen readers so I thought it would be handy for those who cannot afford JAWS. Last Year I made the National Voter Registration form to be accessible using conventional technology. It was tested by the American Foundation for the Blind, the National Federation of the Blind and Jim Dickson, the Vice President of the American Association of People with Disabilites personally presented it to the Elections Assistance Commission. But they decided to have their webmaster make the form and of course it violates Section 508 and is only partially accessible. Anyway I would like to know if you all have any leads with Apple? I had tunnel vision in high school and college and then all of sudden I got my eyesight back and so I developed this system for accessibility.
