Hi,
Modern batteries in things like iPhones work on a "charge cycle" basis. A
charge from absolute 0% to absolute 100% constitutes a full "charge cycle". A
charge from absolute 0% to exactly 50%, or exactly 50% to absolute 100%, would
constitute half a "charge cycle".
The battery has a number of charge cycles which it's set up to support before
things should be expected to not perform properly. That number is somewhere
around the 1000 mark. In simple terms, if you take your phone off charge each
morning and it's at 100%, and it's at 0% each evening by the time you put it
back on charge, your phone's battery ought to last 1000 days, or about 2 years
and nine months.
If, on the other hand, your battery is only at about 50% by the time you put it
on charge each evening, it only needs half a charge cycle to get back up to
100%. Hence, your battery should theoretically last 2000 days, or about five
and a half years.
In practice the reverse happens, and the battery needs to be charged more
frequently than once a day, so of course the battery lasts less than the two
years nine months figure quoted above. But anything about needing to leave the
battery to run all the way down before you charge it up is a myth, and an
incorrect one at that. Batteries do not have "memories" like they used to. You
also don't have to have the battery at 100% before first use, although you
won't know exactly how much juice is in the thing until you get it going, so it
might be handy to have a plug nearby just in case it comes up talking at 2% or
something like that.
Having said all that about expected performance, I should point out that
performance will degrade slowly over time even if you treat your batteries
especially carefully. There is a battery gauge in your phone and this may
periodically require a reset in order to combat this gradual degradation.
Failure to do this may result in, for example, the phone showing a 10% warning
and then immediately shutting down - because there was actually less than 10%
but the gauge was out of step with the amount of juice in the battery.
To perform such a reset, intentionally charge the battery to 100% and then
intentionally run the phone right down until the phone has no choice but to
shut down, then intentionally charge back up to 100%. This procedure should not
need to be undertaken any more frequently than once a month.
HTH,
Matthew

Ramy, that would be fine, to charge it to 100%. Then you are good to go.
Enjoy the 8 plus. I got mine in February and it has been good.
