Hi Dannie!
Its weird that you mention that.  I just had it happen for the first time the 
other day.  I was thinking about how to restore it.  Wonder if you could use 
portable preferences and just reload them?  I haven't tried this but maybe it 
might be worth looking into.
Good luck and don't kill the mac--its still a good beast.
