Jonathan,
While I am still working out some aspects of using a braille display, one thing you can change is the amount of time items like the rotor shows on the display. Its in the Voiceover settings under the braille category. Look for "alert display duration". Max is 7 seconds.

So far I have not bothered with spell check until I finish typing. Then I set the rotor to misspelled words and use space 3 or 6 to find.

You can navigate text by character, word or line. For paragraph you need to assign a command which I have done.

I set things to 8 dot input and contracted output.

I've assigned some other commands as well which has made things easier. Still need to spend more time with this.

From E.T.'s Keyboard...

Hello,

I have been using a Braille display for about a month now, so am quite
inexperienced compared to several on this list.

The below are observations using IOS, any feedback would be appreciated.

I certainly see how the auto expand functionality adds complexity that
shouldn’t be there.
• When inputting text, would others think it would be nice to have spelling
suggestions available on the right side of the display?
• I find the way rotors actions work is confusing. They seem to bring up a
flash message, and then you need to wait before they go away before clicking on
a rotor key to enable that action..
•When working in large chunks of text, I can not always consistently move input
focus to where I want it using the braille routing keys.

ª•The first cell if clicked has some kind of status information and it seems I
should be able to interact with it, but I haven’t figured out / read how yet.
