this is truly unfortunate if true. I am running an older VMWare Fusion on El 
Capitan and have little to no difficulty navigating the snapshots I have saved 
(though I save less frequently than I should). Also, there is a keyboard 
shortcut to restore the last snapshot, I wonder if that still works? 

command-R will restore the last snapshot.
command-s brings up the tree view, and then I just need to interact with the 
tree view to find my snapshots.

BTW this is version 8.5
