confirmed. I have a 2015 iMac with those stupid 5400 1 TB spinners. It does have Mojave installed and it's formatted as APFS. Note, "stupid" because, why make a nice fast computer with great graphics, then put a slow spinning HD in it. Defeats the purpose of creating a faster computer.

Hi Simon, As far as I know, that was the case in High Sierra, but no longer in Mojave. I've been formatting and installing Mojave on a test iMac five or six times over the last few days. This iMac has a spinner in it, and Disk Utility has automatically been choosing APFS and the installation works flawlessly. I will play some more tomorrow and confirm a few extra things for you.
