Hi,

This post will mainly be of interest to programmers and information technology folks who might use O'Reilly's publications. Each day, their RSS feed will offer one of their current releases in DRM-free, multiple eBook formats: PDF, ePub, Mobi, and APK (Android) file formats for $9.99 with a coupon code for checkout good for that day. You get access to all of these formats in your account library, so you can read the text in PDF on your Mac, and at some later time if the iBookstore's app provides a general purpose reader, the ePub format will also be readable on that device. (And if Stanza ever irons out the VoiceOver accessibility bugs, you'll be able to read the ePub versions through their iPhone app uploaded through Stanza Desktop; at present you can sort of do this but the reading really limps along since you have to touch every page to read it.)

From O'Reilly's email announcement: "When you buy an ebook through oreilly.com, you get lifetime access to the book, and whenever possible we provide it to you in four, DRM-free file formats — PDF, .epub, Kindle-compatible .mobi, and Android .apk — that you can use on the devices of your choice. Our ebook files are fully searchable, and you can cut-and-paste and print them. We also alert you when we've updated the files with corrections and additions."

At present (for some time), they've been running a "Buy 2 books, get the 3rd Free" promo using the discount code: OPC10 at checkout.

Most of these titles are technical in nature, but might be of interest to some list members. As an example, Monday's Ebook deal (posted a few days before I received their announcement) was: "Building iPhone Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript".

A few days before that, the Ebook deal of the day was: "Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Leopard Edition".

O'Reilly makes their books available internationally through Bookshare, but this program is generally available, does not require Bookshare membership (which costs more for international users), releases the books in other formats, and releases the latest titles right away.

For more information about O'Reilly's Ebook offerings, check their web page:

The O'Reilly Ebook Deal of the Day RSS feed is:

Today's Ebook deal is: "Making Things Talk: Practical Methods for Connecting Physical Objects" (note this is not about "talking" as in text to speech).

HTH

Cheers,

Esther
