Hi Tim,

it absolutely depends on your needs. I use this combination to record podcasts
and for this I only need two channals. I decided to use an audio interface
which has exactly two XLR inputs. I’m not sure which brand the interface is but
you’ll find quite a lot of them. This interface uses phantom power through
batterys. I connect it via USB and to connect it to the iPad I use a USB to
Lightning adapter. That works for me.

Another thing you could use is Audio Loop. This app turns your Mac into a mixer
and you can define the inputs. For some occasions that might work as well. This
solution might be the most accessible because I have never heard of an
accessible mixer. You need to remember which fader is for which channel and
where to plug in an what are the switches on top of the device and so on. If
you don‘t use it regularly there is a high chance to forget about all this.

Maybe my notes help you to find out what your needs are.

All the best
Jürgen
