Shirley: Are you accessing your email using Safari? Or perhaps Google Chrome? You should be better off setting up email via the Apple Mail app itself rather than a browser. Or, is that you're pushed into a web page in the process of setting up access via this provider?
It's certainly not anything Apple technology is doing to you, so it's unlikely this list can help much. Your issue is with eircom.net, and talking with their support staff is likely your best option. And, if it transpires eircom.net has not paid sufficient attention to making their CAPTCHA challenges accessible, point them to the link below. They certainly have options to make their challenges accessible and not overly burdensome. Also, you may find you're better off with a different provider if this particular provider is always challenging you with a CAPTCHA, particularly if it's a not very accessible CAPTCHA and they don't want to do anything about that. You can set up mail anywhere you like. It doesn't have to be with the same provider that gives you Internet access. In fact it can be argued that it's smart to use a different provider for mail--but that's another story for another day. Why providers do this is simple. They're trying to avoid handing out accounts to software robots. That doesn't absolve them of making their CAPTCHA challenges accessible, of course, but provider are all over the map on that score from reasonably accessible to totaly inaccessible. If you're really interested in the "why" question, I'm currently editing a W3C Note update on that topic at the following link. So, point them to this document if they seem at all interested in cleaning up their act. https://www.w3.org/TR/turingtest/ Best, Janina Shirley Healy writes: > Does anyone know why when I go to add my email account to my mac I get a > capcha and I have to verify before I can enter my email password?
