Audio Quake is available for the Mac, but the public version is only a beta of sorts that is difficult to install. Audio Quake is an accessible first-person shooter game that you can play against other people (blind and sighted) over the Internet. The game is cross-platform, allowing you to play against people running on Windows and Linux. I've been working with Cara Quin to complete a full release of AQ that will include an installer and will basically be a well-behaved Mac application. There are still some bugs to sort out with how AQ uses speech on the Mac, but we're about 99% of the way there.
Jean-luc Pontico's game, Sound RTS, is also available, though it also requires a fair amount of manual tweaking to get it to run. It is a real-time strategy game. You build a kingdom, raise an army, and battle against other Sound RTS players through the Internet to control the game map. Sound RTS is also cross-platform, with support on Windows and Linux. Both of these games are completely self-voicing, with surround sound audio. They also aren't turn-based. They run in real-time, like a game on a console. Its too bad that it isn't trivial to set them up. Several of us are working to make these situations better, though. I think that support for the cross-platform games is particularly important, since it makes it possible to play with a large community of oponents. I'll certainly post to this list as advances are made. Bryan -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
