Hi Karen. This was a bug in Sierra which I think was 10.12 or later. It wasn't fixed until High Sierra which was 10.13. I can't remember if the 2010 Mac Minis were able to be upgraded to High Sierra but if they can and the person really wants to be able to use Alex, I would upgrade to High Sierra. If they can't, then the Mac will keep crashing unless they use a different voice other than the Mackentalk voices. By Mackentalk I mean Alex, Fred etc. Other voices such as Nuance or Acapela didn't crash the Mac in Sierra. HTH.
