And in future, when an update is downloaded, instead of continuing
with the installation one can close the process and copy the installer
from the Applications folder to another location.

They have modified the method by which the App Store provides the MacOS
update installers. It no longer downloads a full installer, only a very
small app which is coded to access most of its resources from the
Internet. If you want the full download, you need to get it from
Apple's support pages on the various updates. I don't have the exact

installer should yield positive results.
