I find that if I take my earpods out of one ear and put it back in then things kick in to life correctly. Have you tried turning the after shocks off and back on to push the connection back to the phone? I also know that if the phones are connected to one device I have to change manually to the other but I'm not sure if your aftershocks do this type of thing. Hope this helps.
