Hi,

If both your iPhone and Mac have photos syncing to iCloud, then use the Photos
Library on your Mac. When in the Finder, go to your Home directory, into
Pictures and copy the Photos Library to your external drive. It's possible
that, if your Mac is set to "Optimize" your Photos Library, not all full
quality originals are stored on your Mac, so you may not be archiving the full
quality version of a photo. If your Mac has enough room, you can set the
Photos service to keep all full quality originals on your Mac as well as in
iCloud, then when you archive things, you should have the entire picture, so to
speak.

Later...

New Topic….
I know that I have my photos synched through iCloud. But I’d like also to
capture them to my external archive drive. When I connect my iPhone to the Mac,
nothing happens, and that makes sense since photos are already backed up to the
cloud.
How do I get all my photos off the iPhone and stored to my archive drive on the
Mac, like it used to happen on my Windows PC?
Or is that possible at all?
