And one even easier way, is to use VO-shift-d.  This VO command should take you 
to the Desktop no matter where you are.

To add to Simon's info, you get to the Finder using cmd-tab to cycle through 
apps, or select Finder when on the Dock.  Also, when in the Finder, you could 
press cmd-shift-i to open iCloud, locate the Desktop folder there, open it, and 
paste into that item with cmd-v.

Okay, then it’s not clear to me just how to get to the desktop. I can select 
desktop in the Finder, but cannot paste the alias there. Where exactly (or how 
exactly) is the desktop to be found?
