Marie,
Under the trackpad tab in the commanders category, it's the very first option you come to. Uncheck it.

To be absolutely honest, I was so frustrated that, for the moment, I have the track pad covered to avoid accidental movement of the cursor. Tomorrow I will see what I can do and will try the rotor first. My issue was that once in the voice over utility I went down to Commanders but then could not figure out how to  disable the track pad.The hints are not very clear in that area, for me.

Did you try it. (smiles) If that does not work, go back into VO
Utility and disable it there.

This is a 2013 model, running Mojave, so does this work on the track pad? I was thinking the rotor only worked on newer models. Hope I am wrong and thanks for the  info.

Try pressing the VO keys and rotating two fingers counterclockwise
on the track pad.

Okay, big oops. Last night I was using the voice over utility and did not close it before quitting. This morning before I got locked in I was placing a marker on the esc. key and somehow accidentally got into the track pad commander and turned it on. I had a hard time getting logged in but when I did, naturally I tried to turn the track pad back off. NO luck, so I am apparently doing something very wrong. Could someone give me some step by step, please?
