These are the keystrokes as they have been defined in the dict file:
control plus Y, yank and select.
control plus backslash plus command, set mark.
control plus w, delete the mark.
control plus x, select the mark.
control plus space, set mark
Apparently, there are two keystrokes that perform the same action, and I
don't know why; however, only the first one works for me when selecting
a portion of the text.
In my mac, pressing control plus space does not perform anything unless
after this combination, I press control plus w, and what it does is to
delete all the text above the mark.
In addition, I don't know what yank and select means nor do I know what
it performs.
Finally, this is how I succeeded in placing a mark and selecting all the
text from that point to the current position of the voice over cursor.
First, go to the specific point in the text where you can place the
mark, and press control plus command plus backslash. (voice over does
not announce anything)
Second, go through the text until the second point, and press control
plus x plus x. (voice over announces the selection and start reading the
selected text)
As a final comment, this only works for me in pages or textedit, but it
doesn't work in web pages; however,
something is something and I find it particularly useful, so I would
like to thank Anne for the feedback.
Best,
Leo.

Well, I have to correct myself.
Anne was correct in that the keystroke in the DefaultKeyBinding.dict
file to place a mark is control-space. I have just tried it and I can
confirm that it still works.

First, you need to create a folder in your Library folder called
KeyBindings if you don’t already have one.
Second, the key stroke to set a mark is actually control-@ as defined
in the dict file. Note however that you can change it to whatever
you would prefer.
I also want to note that the keystroke vo-enter that Jonathan
mentioned is correct. However it seems to be dead in the current
version of Mojave. It is working in Catalina developer beta 6 however.

Hello Anne,
First of all, Thank you very much for your help, this seems to be
a wonderful solution; however, for some reason that I still
cannot understand, it didn't work for me. I followed your
instructions and pasted the resulting folder inside the library
folder of my user, but still, the keystrokes don't respond, and I
have even tried this in combination with the function key with no
luck. Besides, I've been doing some research on Google, but I
can't find anything that could lead me to respond why the
keystrokes are not responding.
I'm on Mojave latest update. Would anyone know why this happens?
Best,
Leo.

Hello Leo,
You can select text between two markers in any text document on
the Mac if you do the following:
Click on this link to download Keybindings.zip
<http://cecimac.net/KeyBindings.zip
In your Downloads folder, open the Keybindings.zip with Cmd-o.
Paste the resulting folder into your user library folder.
You should now be able to mark the start of your selection with
Ctrl-Space, navigate to the place you wish to end your selection
and press Ctrl-x-x. The text in between wil be selected.
Cheers,
Anne

Hi,
well if you red the question that started this thread, you'll
notice that basically your question and my question are the
same. Though I wanted to copy text from a web page, you want to
copy from a text editor; in addition, as far as we've been
told, there is no way to place two marks in a text and
automatically select the text between them. Since this is the
basic concept behind the function that we are looking for, this
probably cannot be done on Mac, neither on a text editor nor on
a web page.
Best,
Leo.

Hi Leo,
Thanks for the clarification.
What should I do if I need to select long passages after
placing a selection beginning mark. On the windows front, I
tend to keep reading until a spot where I need to end
selection. Is there a way to place sweet spots and make a text
selection between them? I will be grateful for an answer.
Take care,
Hem.

Hi, I'm not Jonathan, but the answer to your question is yes,
it works. Just make sure after pressing vo-return, not to stop
pressing vo, then you can errow to select as much as you want.
Best,
Leo.

You can sorta do this if the text is in a block, but if
there is graphics or tables or even perhaps font changes I
find the below method does not work.
1. Go to starting text and interact until it says
interacting with text.
2. Press VO-return. VO says start selecting.
3. Move to where you want to end the selection while
moving VO will make a dragging type of sound. and press
vo-return again. VO should say stop selecting.
Now perform what ever actions you need on the selection.
The good thing about this, is if you somehow break the
selection, the sound will stop.
Best wishes,
Jonathan Cohn

Hello everyone,
I wonder whether what I want to do on my mac can be
done or not.
Working in windows with jaws, I can copy text from a
web page following these steps:
First, I define a marker, which would be the initial
point, and then I go through the text body just until
the point where I want to drag the selection, and
I press a keystroke which performs the action
described as select the text between mark place and
current position of the cursor."
Can this be done somehow with voice over?
If someone had information about it, it would be great!
Best,
Leo.
