Barry, Thanks for that idea. I noticed that even after pressing VO+I I got that irritating “Safari Busy” message again with the long wait time. However when the list did come up I noticed a whole bunch of bookmarks in the item chooser, and I got suspicious. In the View menu for Safari, I shut off bookmarks, reading list, toolbar, tab list, and everything else I could find. Eureka! I got my fast Safari back again, finding, tabbing, etc. I guess all that excess baggage was dragging down the searches. So your suggestion led to the ultimate solution. Thanks!
