I have a 2012 Mac mini, and I find the internal speaker completely inadequate for regular use with VoiceOver or anything else. I have looked at the 2018 Mac mini, and it doesn’t seem any different.. The speaker’s opening in in the back below the peripheral connectors and sounds like it is buried deep inside the case. I have used the internal speaker in a pinch, but I find it difficult to hear even with the volume turned up. I have a pair of external computer speakers connected to the port on the back of the mini, that produce very good sound, but I primarily use AirPods when using my mini.
