Does command-F5 do anything? If you have file vault enabled you have to enter
your username and password before boot, and there is very little feedback there.
It might have beep feedback or else just keep saying username until you put in
a legit username and password until you put in a password and then beep three
times loudly.
Older systems just have beeps 1 for username two for password and three for
success.
