One alternative that may work in some situations is to ask  the individual 
or institution seeking our signature if an electronic statement will work. 
Something like,
My name is  daffy  duck, and this email line constitutes my signature 
provided on  said date.
Rather a few governmental institutions in Ontario are  starting to allow 
this, especially if there may be an issue with a proper signature.
