I would think that installing Catalina on top of an existing installation of 
Catalina shouldn’t be a problem as long as you use an installer for the same or 
newer version of Catalina as is currently on your Mac.  This should be no 
different than doing an upgrade.

As with all upgrades, be sure to backup everything you don’t want to risk 
losing.  Then download the installer and give it a try.
