Have you tried using the FN key with keys on the numbers row as function keys?

Also, I’ve read and heard very positive comments about the performance of the new M1-based Mac hardware, including VoiceOver performance. That’s why I’m contemplating making the upgrade, possibly next year.

Hi All,

It's me again, the ever detail pointing dude.

Ever since I've switched from my older mbp with physical function keys to this touch bar contraption, my productivty has slowed down and I'm frustrated by how unresponsive this touch bar is.

I map a lot of my most used applications (xcode, text edit, safari, numbers, emacs and others) to a function key. With physical keys, it's really fast and responsive, and I can assign further function key mappings within applications using the command key + function.

Now with this touch bar thing, it takes so long for any anouncement to occur, sometimes forcing me to swipe across the entire touch bar to get any reaction from voice over, I find it to be a waste of space, my time and productivity.

I thought I had fixed it by doing some resets, but it keeps creeping back, and worse of all, my fingers are long, so many times while I'm typing or doing something, one of my fingers rests on the touch bar and anounces stuff and plays sound, which is very irritating. When I don't need it, it screams out for attention, when I need it, it crawls to life.

Anyone find this issue, and found a solution to make the damn thing more responsive?

Thanks,

Yuma
