Hi guys, Well, sadly this issue has come up again. :(
In Skype, there is no checkbox like in Windows to stop Skype from changing your volume. Now, you can do this in the following file, however. ~/library/application support/skype/shared.xml under the "VoiceEng" section. There used to be an item called "AGC" (Automatic Gain Control) which, if set to 0, would result in no changes made to adjust the volume accordingly to loud noises. Now, this doesn't seem to be the case. In Skype 2.8.0.851 this section seems to have been removed, seemingly, as this .xml file governs some Skype settings, which probably makes it impossible to change now. You could also adjust the volume to above 100 percent, in case some microphones were not particularly audible even at that level. This often helped if some microphone drivers (such as the drivers for the latest Skype FreeTalk Headset with their new design) had volume issues which it severely does. Now, this used to be easy to change as well. But now, some new values seem to have been added in. Can anyone tell me what they mean?
