I truly believe you, and I know firsthand that it's true. However, the
confusion arises from the fact that the other delete key is labeled
similarly. However, one deletes forward, while the one used in the
command to empty the trash folder deletes backward. Thos who do not rely
on key labels usually call this key the BACKSPACE key.

I actually went in to the trash and selected all the items with
Command A and then chose to delete all the items and had to put in
my password. I thought there would be a quicker way than having to
go into the trash. In windows you can press the application key and
delete everything at once. Is there not a similar way on the Mac as
there use to be. That was where the contextual menu came in. You’d
highlight the Bin folder and then VO M and move the down arrow and
the empty bin button would be there and you’d press the enter key.
