I currently have all disks showing in Finder on my wife's machine, but
somehow, and nobody seems to know how this happens, drives get renamed
to strange things. I suspect a cat is involved, walking on the RETURN
key, pressing more keys, then walking on the RETURN key again to
effectively rename things. Sometimes the things that get renamed are the
system drive and the Time Machine drive. While this does not appear to
affect the system's functionality or behavior in any way, the only way I
know to stop it from happening is to take those things off the desktop
via the Finder Preferences window. But if I do that, how will my wife
know if there's a problem with, say, the Time Machine drive if the icon
for it isn't there any more? Is there somethin in the Extras area under
the Time Machine menu to indicate absence of the TM drive? Just trying
to ward off potential problems caused by little creatures that walk on
and among things on and among which they really oughtn't be walking in
the first place, but always do!
