Hi, In this case that Donna outlined, the HomePods, or HomePod Minis, are what Apple calls a “Home Hub”. The Home Hub is needed to coordinate your Apple Home experience. The Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K can also work as your Home Hub, so when adding the Sonos speakers to your Apple Home, HomePods are not the only option. An iPad can also be used as a Home Hub, but the iPad that is being used as the home Hub needs to be left at home if you wish it to control devices in your home when you are away.
