I do not find that the messaging app is a disaster at all. It has just changed. You must first navigate to the message edit field, and do a one finger double tap to activate it. Once activated, then swipe to the dictation button and dictate as in the past. Once finished dictating, you should swipe right until you cannot swipe right anymore, then do a one finger double tap to complete the dictation process. you will then find your dictated message in the message edit field, where you can edit the dictated message or add emojis to it if you wish. once you have finished and are ready to send your message, swipe less to the send button, then double tap to send your message. That's it.
