Hi,

I recently got a new Macbook and am a bit puzzled about what's meant
to happen when logging in. On my nine years old Macbook, when VO
starts at the log-on screen, it says I'm in a scroll area, and from
there Ih select the user account and press it, then type in the
password.

On the new one, the first thing VO says is "sticky keys on" (I do use
sticky keys and have them switched on). As I did set up Touch Id and
ticked all the boxes for its use in System Preferences, I thought
after VO said anything I must be at the log-on screen so put my
finger on the touch id but nothing happened. A sighted person said
there was a box for me to type a password but when I typed nothing
happened. It seems the only thing that brings focus to the password
field is me swiping on the trackpad. When I do that, VO says
"Voiceover on" and announces the password field and I'm able to log
in.

So I'm wondering if I should be able to log in using my finger?
Perhaps my finger's not consistent or the sensor needs wiping or
whatever which I can try but I just wanted to make sure I'm
understanding correctly when to place my finger. Since I've only set
up one user account on this new macbook it's not surprising VO doesn't
let me know about a scroll area with users to pick from, but it seems
a bit odd to me that it doesn't say anything else other than "sticky
keys on" until I swipe on the trackpad. Is this similar to other
people's experiences?

Thanks,
Catherine
