You need to copy and paste the app file into your applications folder.
No need to drag and drop. CTRL + C, and CTRL + V, will do the trick.
Then close the open volume window on your desktop, and find the volume icon on
your desktop, and eject it using CMD + E.
Thats all there is to it.

I can’t figure out exactly what to do with a DMG file. I know that Cmd+O opens
the file, and then there’s an .app file sitting all by itself. What do I do
next?
Why doesn’t it automatically get dropped into my Applications folder, ready to
use?
And why does it put an entry on my desktop for starting it?
When I try to move it to my applications folder I get complaints that there are
locked items in the Trash. What is all that about?
A sighted friend just said all I need to do is to drag that .app file into my
applications folder. Yeah, sure.
Any tips?
