Pages does not allow you to work in a .DOC or .DOCX format. You can export
your final product to a MS word format, but that's not at all the same thing as
being able to work in one of those formats.

I think Pages would be your best bet, and it is free on IOS and the mac.

Subject: Re: A couple of question after getting a new Mac Air

In terms of a word processor, I’d like something that will allow me to save
files in in .docx format. I’m also not interested in one of those
subscription-based word processors where you pay for it by the month. I’m happy
to pay for something that will meet my needs, but I’d prefer a one-time payment
rather than paying by the month or year. Lastly, I’d rather not use a processor
that requires an internet connection. I generally prefer to do my writing
offline.

As far as that Google prompt goes, google mail is working without issue. I
followed those instructions in system preferences, but once I get to internet
accounts, it shows the account is logged in. It’s almost like that notification
comes up without actually needing to, like it hasn’t cleared or something.

Thank you in advance for any insight you might have.

Concerning editors, a word count is something that can be easily added via a
script, so what other features are you looking for in a text editor? There are
several around from Emacs to nisus Pro. Also, if you look for something in the
App Store it is harder to use than in earlier MacOS systems, but tends to have
quite a few things. . One could even get Microsoft Word, but I find it more
difficult than pages to work with.
In terms of the Google prompt, is Google mail working? I would suggest
either logging out or force quitting System Preferences. What should happen is:
1. You click on the Google account in System Preferences Internet Accounts.
2. A prompt comes up saying you need to enter the information in a Browser
window.
3. You click the OK, proceed or whatever the button is there.
4. Safari opens in a private browsing window and you enter your Google
credentials.
5. At this point the prompt to open a browser to enter the password should be
gone.

                             Best wishes,

After getting a new Mac Air and setting it up, my partner has a couple of minor
issues.
First of all, what are people using as a simple text editor that has a few more
features than Text Edit, such as being able to get a word count, but is not as
complex as Pages? iText Express was her go-to editor, but it does not work with
the new Air and/or OS.

Also, she can’t get rid of the Google login screen. The computer is logged into
the Google account, but the request to log in with the username and password
will not go away. Any thoughts would be appreciated. She did try going back
into System Preferences and to Internet accounts and attempt to log back in,
but it is not letting her do this.
