You should be able to open them in either textedit or Pages and probably in Microsoft Word also. The issue you are running into is that Beam is listed as the creator of the document, so it is attempting to open them with this. What you should do: Select one of these files and press command-i (for info) Now look for the "Open with" and expand this. The first item here says what program to open that file with and you should have a list of choices there. If you change the opening application, then you can press the "Change all" button that will then make whatever program you select be the default for all ".doc" files. Good Luck!
