Well, I haven't heard of such a behavior but it is more likely a settings
strangeness than an anything else.
There is a slight possibility that you are having storage issues, but that is
very unlikely.
Try using
VO-F1 Read current application
VO-F2 Read current window name
VO-F3 Read current VO Cursor location
and
VO-F4 Read current keyboard focus
This should let you kverify that you are indeed in a mail message window of the
Mail app and that your Focus is on the content of the message.
You can also try interact/stop interact commands to see if they provide context.
