It is my understanding, which may be mistaken, that the new door detection 
feature in iOS 16 requires LiDAR, hence the Pro model. It’s the same for people 
detection.
I have an iPhone XS, and the reasons for upgrading are accumulating, but they 
are not yet compelling. For those in the U.S. and China, prices have reportedly 
been held the same as those of last year’s models, but prices have been 
increased in other markets. I would not be surprised if the price increases 
were to reach the U.S. and China with next year’s devices, though that of 
course is purely speculation on my part.
